WELCOME TO SURGERY
Welcome to the surgery departments at St. Luke's Health-Memorial in Lufkin and Livingston. We are glad you chose us for your procedure. We look forward to serving you and helping make your stay as pleasant as possible.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR NURSES IN SURGERY
As your surgery team prepares for your procedure in an optimum state-of-the-art surgical suite, you will be visited by several operating room staff members involved in your care. A highly skilled and trained Registered Nurse will greet you and your family with a smile, answer any questions you may have about your visit, bring warm blankets, and provide information regarding your surgery.
ANESTHESIA
You will meet an Anesthesiologist and a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who will speak to you about the best choice for anesthesia during your surgery, and all measures that will be taken to provide the most optimum comfort for you. It is normal to experience some anxiety before surgery. Some of the questions patients ask about anesthesia include, “Will I be awake during surgery?” “Will I feel any pain?” or “What if I wake up during my surgery?” Our highly skilled Anesthesia staff will provide answers to you and your family to ease any reservations you may have. While you are sleeping, your dedicated Anesthesia expert will remain at your bedside to provide excellent patient care throughout your procedure. Every patient is unique and your anesthesia will be specific to your needs.
GOING TO SURGERY
As your surgery begins, your family will be taken to a Surgery Waiting Room. In Lufkin, we hope to make your family comfortable with wireless Internet and public phone access, and complementary coffee. The Lufkin Surgery Waiting Room is located next to the Surgery Department so your family can be as close as possible. Outside of our waiting rooms you will find our Hospital Chaplain, Gift Shop, and a vending area. St. Luke's Health-Memorial Lufkin also features live piano music inside its beautiful atrium. A Surgery Liaison is provided from 6 a.m. – 4 p.m. Monday through Friday to assist your family with any needs they may have during your procedure.
IN THE OPERATING ROOM
As you enter into Surgery, our nurses will provide optimum safety, comfort, and privacy for you. As patient advocates, we will take care of you and your family at all times. As your surgery progresses, we will frequently notify your family to help ease any anxieties they might have during your procedure. Afterward, your surgeon will go to the waiting room and speak to your family as you are taken into the Recovery Room. During the recovery phase, your comfort and privacy will continue and will soon be reunited with your family. When your recovery phase is complete, your family will be notified and will join you as you move to your next destination.
