2024 Medical Mentor Program - St. Luke's The Woodlands Hospital

Students chosen will be offered a one-week rotation.

The Medical Mentor program at St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital offers college undergraduate students the opportunity to explore the medical world, by shadowing a healthcare provider. This is a juried program, open to local, highly motivated local students who are in good standing at their university, and interested in pursuing a career in medicine.

Medical Mentor Program Requirements

  • Students age 18 – 22 who are enrolled full-time in a university are invited to apply. You must be in good standing in your academic program. 
  • Participants must have reliable transportation during the program. 
  • Scrubs are required for hospital rotations. The student is responsible for purchasing their own scrubs. 
  • Each student chosen for the Medical Mentor program will be assigned to a one-week rotation, shadowing a medical provider.  
  • Students must be fully vaccinated – No exceptions. Vaccinations required:
    • MMR
    • Tdap
    • Varicella
    • In addition, you must submit a TB Blood Test
  • Students must also submit two letters of recommendation. 
  • Once you have completed your application, email your vaccination verifications to: [email protected]

 

Letters of Recommendations

  • At least one letter of recommendation is to come from a current instructor in your program. 
  • You may submit two instructor letters, or one from an academic teacher and one from another contact such as an employer, coach, or sponsor of an accredited program at your school. 
  • Recommendations must include the author’s relationship to the applicant, their title, email, and cell number. 
  • Letters of reference need to speak to the student’s:
    • Intellectual Curiosity
    • Work Ethic
    • Maturity Level
    • Reliability
    • People Skills

 

Recommendations may be sent in email format, or in a formal letter sent DIRECTLY to Debra Staley from the author (professor, mentor, or coach). 

 

Medical Mentor Application and Health Requirements

Any questions about the program should come from the student - via email - to Debra Staley (not from a parent). Instructors are welcome to contact Debra Staley as well.

PLEASE NOTE: HEALTH VERIFICATIONS AND RECOMMENDATION LETTERS ARE DUE BY THE DEADLINE, OR YOUR APPLICATION IS NOT COMPLETE.
