Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center Earns National Award for Quality
Named a Top Teaching Hospital by The Leapfrog Group
HOUSTON, December 6, 2018 – Highlighting its nationally recognized achievements in patient safety and quality, Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center was named a Top Teaching Hospital by The Leapfrog Group. The Top Teaching Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive honors American hospitals can receive and is awarded by The Leapfrog Group, an independent hospital watchdog organization.
Baylor St. Luke's was the only hospital in Houston and one of four in the state of Texas to earn the Top Teaching Hospital Award. This award comes following the hospital’s “A” Hospital Safety Grade in both spring and fall 2018, also from The Leapfrog Group.
"We are honored to be named a Top Teaching Hospital, one of the most prestigious and exclusive awards in the country," said Gay Nord, market president at Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. "Earning this award honors all of our employees and physicians who exhibit compassion and dedication in providing the highest quality of care to our patients."
Among thousands of hospitals in the country, Baylor St. Luke's was one of 53 hospitals nationwide to be named a 2018 Top Teaching Hospital and one of only 14 in the "Large" subcategory for Top Teaching Hospitals.
“Being acknowledged as a Top Hospital is an incredible feat achieved by less than six percent of eligible hospitals nationwide,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “With this honor, Baylor St. Luke's has established its commitment to safer and higher quality care. I congratulate the board, staff and clinicians, whose efforts made this honor possible.”
