“This is a tremendous accomplishment for our hospital,” said David Argueta, FACHE, President of St. Luke’s Health–The Woodlands, Lakeside and Springwoods Village Hospitals. “Our team has worked diligently to meet the requirements of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). This is well-deserved affirmation of the high-quality care our physician partners and staff provide to patients every day.”

For two years, Jason Balette, MD, Bariatric Surgeon, and Janice Penn, RN, BSN, CBN, Bariatric Program Coordinator led efforts at the hospital to achieve this designation. Additionally, staff and leaders from Food Services, Plant operations, Case Management, Quality, and other nursing and support departments contributed to the application, data collection, and site-visit process.

St. Luke’s Health–The Woodlands Hospital achieved accreditation following a rigorous application and review process during which it demonstrated through objective and measurable means that it provides high-quality metabolic and bariatric care in a multidisciplinary environment. The designation is valid for three years and also recognizes the hospital’s ability to implement defined standards of care, document their outcomes, and participate in regular reviews to evaluate its bariatric surgical programs.

The MBSAQIP is an independent, voluntary, and rigorous peer evaluation process in accordance with nationally-recognized metabolic and bariatric surgical standards. Comprehensive Metabolic and Bariatric Center accreditation not only promotes uniform standard benchmarks, but also supports continuous quality improvement in participating hospitals.
