Important Information About Your Texas Medicaid/CHIP Coverage

Mayor Turner and St. Luke's Encourage Medicaid Recipients to Take Action
Share:

If you currently receive health insurance through Texas Medicaid or Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), you must renew your benefits soon to maintain health insurance coverage.

Why is this happening?

During the COVID-19 pandemic, all Texas Medicaid or CHIP recipients were continuously enrolled in health insurance coverage without needing to reapply for benefits. Due to a recent federal law, continuous Texas Medicaid/CHIP enrollment ended on March 31, 2023, so you need to take steps to ensure your health insurance coverage will continue if you are eligible.

What can you do to maintain your coverage?

  • Make sure to update your contact information with Texas Medicaid/CHIP. You can visit hhs.texas.gov/update or call 2-1-1 or 877-541-7905 to learn more about eligibility.

  • Be on the lookout for renewal materials from  Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC).  Complete and submit the required information by the deadline noted in the materials.

    • HHSC is mailing all Medicaid renewal notices in a yellow envelope that says “Action Required” in red.

    • HHSC is also sending electronic notices to recipients who have a Your Texas Benefits account and opted to go paperless.

  • If you no longer qualify for Texas Medicaid/CHIP,  you can visit healthcare.gov for information on additional coverage options.
