Local Girl Scout Comforts Heart Patients
She may only be 11 years old, but a local Girl Scout is playing an important role in the recovery of patients who have undergone open heart surgery. Paige Evans spent the last week sewing pillows for patients at Memorial Medical Center—Lufkin. Patients undergoing open heart surgery find comfort in holding a firm pillow against their chest during recovery. Evans, who is a member of Girl Scout Troop 2644, says sewing is her passion and she couldn’t think of a better way to help out those in need. Richard Fennell, RN, Nurse Manager of the Intensive Care Unit at Memorial, gladly accepts the handmade crafts from Evans.
