Memorial Celebrates Nearly 14,000 Hours of Volunteer Time
At the annual Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon, officers of the Volunteer Auxiliary of Memorial Health System of East Texas honored individuals who dedicated nearly 14,000 hours of volunteer time to the hospital.
Five volunteers, Hellen Schmidt, Jeannie Owens, Noah Clay, Janet Walker and Kathleen Crain, received their Service Pins signifying the volunteers first 100 hours of service. More than 20 additional volunteers collectively served nearly 14,000 hours at the hospital. Hours are accumulated for every shift a volunteer works for the auxiliary.
The Memorial Volunteer Auxiliary serves as a vital organization within the hospital system. Volunteers raise funds through the hospital gift shop, jewelry, book and scrub sales. They also volunteer their time by popping popcorn, greeting guests, answering phones and working as waiting room attendants on the numerous hospital floors. Last year, the volunteer group surpassed the $1 million mark in contributions to the hospital.
