HOUSTON, TX (March 25, 2025) - St. Luke’s Health, a member of CommonSpirit Health, has awarded $1.5 million in grants to nonprofit agencies to help improve the health and well-being of people in underserved communities.
Twenty-three nonprofits received a total of 32 grants across St. Luke’s service areas in Greater Houston, East Texas and the Brazos Valley. The grants are funded by the CommonSpirit Health Community Health Improvement Grant program, now in its second year.
“Partnering with local organizations and supporting their wide-ranging initiatives are essential to improving the lives of the most vulnerable people in our region,” said Michael Lawson, Houston Market President of St. Luke’s Health. “It demonstrates St. Luke’s Health’s commitment to the betterment of the communities where we offer nationally-recognized health care with humankindness.”
The grants will help agencies tackle issues that include access to health care and health services, mental health, food insecurity, safe shelter and housing, violence prevention and human trafficking.

Collaborating 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations applied to receive grant funds to address significant issues in community health needs assessments. The grant program helps to improve community health and health equity, and enhance local service systems, via restricted charitable contributions for defined projects.
