The Department of Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiology at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center understands the concerns that patients and their doctors have over radiation exposure, especially from CT (computed tomography) exams. Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center considers patient safety to be a top priority.  

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Radiology at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is committed to providing clinically diagnostic images at As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) radiation dose. 

• When clinically appropriate, we attempt to minimize radiation exposure using radiation-free alternative imaging modalities such as MRI, and ultrasound.
• Our typical dose levels for many CT exams are at or below the published guidelines of the American College of Radiology 
• Our board certified radiologist plan CT exams for patients based on patient weight, clinical history, age, and other factors to minimize radiation dose.

X-Ray and CT images provide incredible ability to see within the body that can help your doctor determine the right course of medical plan for you, and in some instances these technologies can save one’s life.  Recent advances in CT imaging provide exquisite capabilities to peer through the human body with exquisite resolution.  Along with the advances in technology comes the responsibility to use these devices in a safe manner.
